Biography
Emily Torrent is a second-year Graduate Assistant for the Pride of the South Marching Band at the University of Mississippi. Continuing a legacy as a third-generation educator, Emily earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Mississippi in May 2024, graduating Magna Cum Laude. During her undergraduate years, she was an active member of several ensembles, primarily performing on clarinet. Emily participated as a four-year member of the Wind Ensemble, Clarinet Choirs, the LOU Orchestra, various chamber ensembles, and the Pride of the South Marching Band, where she served all four years and held the position of Clarinet Section Leader. She has taught private clarinet lessons, served as a judge for the I-55 Honor Band Clinic, and worked as a marching and woodwind technician for numerous band camps across North Mississippi. She completed her student teaching at Lewisburg Middle and High School, where she conducted the top ensemble, led sectionals, provided individual instruction, and gained valuable experience as a music educator. Emily is currently pursuing her Master’s in Music Education at the University of Mississippi while continuing her role as a Graduate Assistant for the Pride of the South. In her graduate assistantship, Emily has been actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the marching band. Her responsibilities have included assisting with marching and concert rehearsals, managing game day logistics, organizing auditions, participating in recruitment events, sharing information about the university with prospective students, and helping to coordinate various events.
