UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy operate on both the Oxford and Jackson campuses. The Schools of Dentistry, Health Related Professionals and Medicine, and the Health Sciences Graduate School, are based in Jackson only. (Additional healthcare programs are available through the School of Applied Sciences on the Oxford campus.) Other than these exceptions, the schools above are on the Oxford campus.

Brief Bio

Dr. Chittiboyina holds an appointment as Assistant Director at the National Center for Natural Products Research, University of Mississippi. He has a broad background in organic chemistry, with specific training and expertise in medicinal chemistry, natural products, and analytical chemistry. Dr. Chittiboyina holder of several national, international patents has contributed to book chapters on natural products, medicinal chemistry as well as quality and safety assessment of phytochemicals in various matrices. His group collaborates with many interdisciplinary researchers including biomedical researchers. Many of our projects provide us with opportunities to probe the unique properties of phytochemicals that are part of various matrices and make modifications to improve detection limits, specificity or test important biological principles. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Sigma-Xi, The Scientific Research Society American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Pharmacognosy and Society of Toxicology. He has authored over 100 peer- reviewed publications related to many aspects of natural and biologically active compounds. His research interests include biogenesis of secondary metabolites; development of synthetic methods and greener ways to produce natural products; implementation of orthogonal methods for the quality assessment of phytochemicals in various matrices; development of non-animal alternative methods in dermatotoxicology; application of computational tools to address the adverse effects such as potential herb-herb and herb-drug interactions associated with phytochemicals. Dr. Chittiboyina received his Ph.D. degree from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India, followed by postdoctoral training at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Mississippi.
