Brief Bio
Carol A. Britson is an Instructional Associate Professor in the Department of Biology. Dr. Britson received her B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology (minors in Botany and Journalism & Mass Communications) from Iowa State University. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biology from the University of Memphis in 1991 and 1996, respectively. At the University of Memphis she was named a Van Vleet Doctoral Fellow. Her dissertation research focused on predator-prey relationships and aposematic coloration in hatchling, freshwater turtles. In 1996 Dr. Britson came to the University of Mississippi to begin a postdoctoral research position on an EPA funded project investigating the "Effects of interacting stressors in agricultural ecosystems: mesocosm and field evaluation of multi- level indicators of wetland responses." Dr. Britson teaches biology courses at the University of Mississippi in Vertebrate Histology, Human Anatomy, Introductory Physiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, and Honors Recitation. In 2006 she was invited into Distinguished Faculty Membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, University of Mississippi Chapter. In 2018 she received the University of Mississippi Excellence in Teaching award from the PLATO (Personalized Learning & Adaptive Teaching Opportunities) Program supported by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
