Biography

Dr. Christopher L. Newman is an Associate Professor of Marketing and holds the P.M.B. Self and William King Self Chair of Free Enterprise. He also serves as the Marketing Doctoral Program Coordinator. His research focuses on marketing and public policy issues, primarily within the domains of consumer health, food labeling, and retailing.

Dr. Newman received the 2021 AMA/EBSCO Responsible Research in Marketing Award and was named the 2018 Emerging Scholar by the AMA’s Marketing & Society Special Interest Group. Before that, he received the Brenda Derby Memorial Award for his marketing and policy research as a doctoral student. The Ole Miss Business School has twice honored him with the Outstanding Publication of the Year Award, and twice named him the Outstanding Junior Researcher of the Year.

His research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Industrial Marketing Management, and the American Journal of Health Promotion, among others. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Service Research, International Journal of Advertising, and the Journal of Consumer Affairs.

Dr. Newman has taught both doctoral and undergraduate courses including Experimental Design & Analysis, Advanced Studies in Consumer Behavior, Data Analysis & Interpretation, Social and Digital Media Metrics, and Intro to Retail.

Dr. Newman and his wife, Kate, have two boys (Woods and Hayes). They own Style Assembly, a women’s boutique on The Square in Oxford.
