Biography

Cesar Rego received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the Portucalense University in Portugal in 1990 and a Master of Sciences (M.Sc.) in Operations Research and Systems Engineering from the Institute of Technology (IST) of the University of Lisbon in 1993. He received his doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from the University of Versailles in 1996. He was also awarded a Habilitation (post-doctorate) degree from the University of Versailles in 2012. Professor Rego took tenured faculty positions at the Portucalense University and at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Professor Rego was also appointed as a Visiting Research Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2007. He holds the title of Full Professor at the University of Mississippi since 2011. Professor Rego’s publications have appeared in books and in leading journals on optimization such as the European Journal of Operational Research, the Journal of the Operational Research Society, Parallel Computing, Computers and OR, Computers and IE, Annals of OR, OR Spectrum, Applied Soft Computing, Journal of Heuristics, Journal of Discrete Algorithms, IEEE Intelligent Systems, Networks, and Management Science. Dr. Rego has served on scientific committees for the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and examiner of doctoral dissertations in Europe, USA, and Canada. Dr. Rego has organized and chaired numerous sessions and clusters in international conferences and has served as an invited speaker in a number of tutorials and plenary sessions.
