Brief Bio

Isaac Stephens is Assistant Professor of History, and joined the history department at the University of Mississippi in the fall of 2018. He holds a PhD from the University of California, Riverside. With research and teaching that center on early modern British/European history, he has a particular interest in the interplay between religion, politics, gender, and culture during the Stuart period. His scholarship and publication record (including two books) have been internationally recognized; he is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and he has held fellowships from Vanderbilt University, the Huntington Library, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Combined with his research, his extensive teaching experience makes him well suited to offer both undergraduate and graduate instruction in historical methods, early modern Britain, and European and world history.
