Mika B Jekabsons
Brief Bio
Mika Jekabsons, Associate Professor of Biology, received his Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of California Davis in 1999. He was a Postdoctoral fellow Jan 2000-May 2002: Medical Research Council, Dunn Human Nutrition Unit, Cambridge, England and was a Postdoctoral fellow Jun 2002- July 2005: Buck Institute for Age Research, Novato, California. His research interests are Mitochondrial bioenergetics, Mitochondrial function within cells, and the role of mitochondria in apoptotic and necrotic cell death. Dr. Jekabsons has been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (2008- 2011) on the Regulation of the pro-apoptotic protein Bax during neuronal apoptosis and the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Co-PI with Yu-Dong Zhou (UM Biochemistry) (2016-2019) on Anti-metastatic drug discovery that targets metabolic plasticity.
