Brief Bio
Dr. John Wiginton is an Instructional Associate Professor and the Director for Undergraduate Laboratories in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Liberal Arts, a position he has held since January 2010. He received his NCATE-accredited Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi in 2003 and his Doctorate of Arts in Chemistry in May 2008. Dr. Wiginton has been a journeyman electrician and worked as an enlisted nuclear electrical operator on a fleet ballistic missile (FBM) submarine in the Navy. On-line instruction is just one of the activities that Dr. Wiginton has been involved in at UM. His other interests involve chemical education with a specific focus on traditional and virtual lab development, professional development and continued learning for in-service high school chemistry teachers, and chemistry misconception identification in lower- classmen. He was chair of the Ole Miss local Section of the American Chemical Society for 2006 and 2007, is a member of the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Science Teachers Association, is a member of the National Science Teachers Association's (NSTA) Science Advisory Board, and is a member of the NSTA's Committee on College Science Teaching. He is also a member of Phi Delta Kappa International, the Science Advisory Board, the National Scholars Honor Society (Magna Cum Laude, Sigma Xi).
