Brief Bio
Larry A. Cox, Ph.D. Dr. Larry Cox holds the Robertson Chair of Insurance at The University of Mississippi (“Ole Miss”). He serves as the leader of the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) program. Larry is a past president of the Risk Theory Society, an international society of risk management and insurance researchers; a past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association, the leading North American professional society dedicated to education and research in risk management and insurance; and a past president of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association. His scholarly articles have appeared in The Journal of Risk and Insurance, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, Risk Management and Insurance Review, Journal of Insurance Regulation, and Financial Services Review. Larry is in his 15th year at Ole Miss after previously serving on the faculties of the University of Georgia and New Mexico State University. Since he arrived at Ole Miss, the number of RMI majors has grown from 19 to approximately 120 presently and endowments supporting the program have increased nearly sevenfold. He is married and has two children, both of whom are graduates of Ole Miss. Larry’s father spent most of his career in the life insurance business and his daughter, who graduated with a major in RMI from Ole Miss, currently serves as a Senior Underwriter of directors’ and officers’ liability insurance with RLI Corporation in Atlanta.
