Research Interests
- Discovering and implementing new ways of experiential learning that provide hands-on experience. Ways to gamify the classroom that lead to student engagement.
- Using pop culture in the classroom to engage a new generation of students. Shows like the Netflix series “Black Mirror” can be used to examine the near future of media and technology.
- Discovering, writing about and teaching students about historic civil rights cases and Southern history.
- Continuing to learn about social media and its impact on our culture.
- Learning new tech tools, programs and more about digital media and storytelling.
Biography
LaReeca Rucker has been a journalist for more than 20 years, and she spent a decade of her career as a reporter at The Clarion-Ledger - part of the USA Today Network, where her stories were published by Gannett News Service and the Associated Press across the nation. While there, she was a USA TODAY contributor.
Rucker was named as one of 10 National Challenge Fund For Innovation in Journalism Education winners in 2017 by the Online News Association. She has also written travel and food stories for WONDERLUST, a national travel website created by the founder of SPIN magazine; Elephant Journal, a national website with a mental health focus; the Memphis Medical News; and The ‘Sip – a statewide lifestyles magazine. She got her start in local newspapers.
