Dr. Jenkins currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice on the Oxford Campus. She practices in nutrition support and adult medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi, where she is also the coordinator of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and a Preceptor for the BMH-NM Internal Medicine Residency.
Research Interests
- Nutrition support, including parenteral nutrition management and pharmacist provision of nutrition support services and impact on outcomes.
- Care transitions, including admission and discharge from the hospital, and optimization of the medication regimen at all transition points.
- Experiential education, including incorporation of introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experience students into the institutional practice model.
Biography
Dr. Jenkins began her career in academia following completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. She now specializes in nutrition support pharmacy practice at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi, where she is a board certified nutrition support specialist and practices with the institutions' clinical pharmacy services team.
She started the PGY1 Residency Program at BMH-NM in 2012, and has served as Residency Program Director and also currently is the program coordinator for 3 residents each year. She has led BMH-NM pharmacy expansion into numerous transitions of care services, including both admission and discharge education roles. At the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, Dr. Jenkins is the teaching lead for the Gastrointestinal Module and offers lecture and lab activities in numerous other courses. She offers an elective course in Nutrition Support, providing an in depth look at pharmacist management of parenteral and enteral nutrition.
Dr. Jenkins' research efforts have been diverse and have included nutrition support, care transitions, and numerous areas of adult medicine. She enjoys including students and residents in her research areas, and always shares a passion for the scholarship of teaching and learning with her faculty colleagues.
Dr. Jenkins serves on numerous professional committees and enjoys her active roles with the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American Society of Heath-System Pharmacists, the Mississippi Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Lastly, Dr. Jenkins also serves as the faculty advisor for the Oxford chapter of the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
