Brief Bio
Daniell L. Mattern is Professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. He received a B.S. degree from Kalamazoo College in Michigan and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University, the latter in 1975. He did postdoctoral research at Tufts University Medical School in Boston and the University of California at San Diego before joining the University of Mississippi as an assistant professor in 1980. Dr. Mattern is an organic chemist and has studied aromatic iodination, fatty acid control of circadian rhythms, and donor-sigma-acceptor molecules that can act as electrical rectifiers. He was awarded the Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher Award for the university in 1992 and has also won the Outstanding Teacher Award for the College of Liberal Arts.
