Brief Bio
Thomas Werfel is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering and Joint Assistant Professor of BioMolecular Sciences. Dr. Werfel did his graduate studies under Dr. Craig Duvall as a NSF GRFP Fellow and received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 2017. He furthered his training as a NIH/NCI F32 Postdoctoral Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Rebecca Cook at Vanderbilt School of Medicine. Dr. Werfel joined the University of Mississippi as an Assistant Professor in 2018 as a part of the Biomedical Engineering Program. His research interests lie at the interface of nanotechnology and cancer biology, where he seeks to better understand nanomaterial-biological system interactions and develop novel anti-cancer nanomedicines. Dr. Werfel teaches courses in the areas of biomaterials and drug delivery, including Biomaterials, Drug and Gene Delivery, Tissue Engineering, and Immunoengineering.
