Vivian Ibrahim-Dinius
Brief Bio
Vivian Ibrahim is a historian of the Modern Middle East and joined the University of Mississippi in 2011. She specializes in religion, ethnicity, politics and nationalism in nineteenth and twentieth century Egypt. Her current research project is a micro-history of Egypt during the cold war. Using cultural diplomacy as a tool, Ibrahim examines how antiquities, and in particular King Tutankhamun's treasures, was used by the modern Egyptian nation state to challenge the cold war impasse. Ibrahim holds degrees from the University of London (PhD. School of Oriental and African Studies; MSc. London School of Economics; BA. King's College). She held a one-year post-doctoral research position examining European-Muslim identities at University College Cork, Ireland and has taught at several universities in the United Kingdom.
