Dr. Lee is a Clinical Health Psychologist who specializes in the management of chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity.
Research Interests
Dr. Lee’s research focuses on:
- Improving current understanding of the ways that stress and psychological vulnerabilities (e.g., difficulties regulating emotion, maladaptive beliefs) impact individuals’ health behaviors and disease related outcomes – particularly among adults with diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
- Examining the impact of mental health comorbidities (e.g., PTSD, depression, and anxiety disorders) on the sequela of cardiometabolic disease.
- Characterizing and elucidating the role of informal support networks in chronic disease self-management.
Biography
Dr. Lee is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Mississippi. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Wyoming in 2016 after finishing his predoctoral internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center Consortium in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Lee completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Center for Clinical Management Research and University of Michigan Center for Managing Chronic Disease. Dr. Lee’s research seeks to improve our understanding of how psychological and social variables influence disease self-management, health outcomes, and medical care use among adults with chronic medical problems, such as diabetes and obesity. His work primarily focuses on how comorbid mental conditions, psychological vulnerabilities, and disease related social support impact patients’ ability to effectively manage diabetes, obesity, and other chronic health problems. The long-term goal of this research is to inform the development and creation of behavioral interventions to improve health outcomes among adults with chronic disease.
