Anqi Shao

I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. I study how human and AI can communicate responsibly in the changing information ecosystem. My work focuses on public opinions on science and health topics that involve risk or controversy, and looks at what happens when AI gets things wrong (hallucinations) and how that shapes what people believe.

Biography

Dr. Anqi Shao is an Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied AI hallucination as a new challenge for science communication. Her research focuses on responsible human-AI communication in a changing information ecosystem, examining how AI shapes public understanding of science and health topics, with work appearing in outlets such as Scientific Reports and the Harvard Kennedy School Misinformation Review.
