Alice Steimle oversees the work of the Professional Learning and K-12 STEM Experiences Divisions.
Biography
Alice Steimle is the Director of the Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) at the University of Mississippi. With a rich history of 17 years within the center, she has played a pivotal role in advancing STEM education across Mississippi. Starting out at Project Manager for the center, Alice quickly moved into the Associate Director's role and then ultimately the role of Director in 2021.
The CMSE's mission is to improve mathematics and science education in Mississippi by fostering interaction between K-12 and university communities, promoting research-based methods in the classroom and inspiring students to engage in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. As director, Alice continues to lead the Professional Learning and K-12 STEM Experiences Divisions in this mission. She aims to build upon partnerships that have been created and enhance STEM collaborations across campus and statewide.
Alice has served as a founding member for two professional organizations within MS: the Mississippi Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (MAMTE) and the Mississippi Mathematics Specialist Network (MSMSN). She serves as Vice President for Community Engagement with the United Way of Oxford & Lafayette County and active members of several other professional organizations.
