Biography
Dr. Guntupalli (Nanjundeswaran) is a Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Mississippi. Dr. Guntupalli’s primary research focus is in understanding the multifaceted and heterogenous nature of vocal fatigue. Along those lines, she has developed and validated the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI) to identify individuals with vocal fatigue. This index has been culturally and linguistically adapted and validated in multiple languages across the globe. She has utilized principles from the exercise physiology literature to identify potential metabolic mechanisms that may underlie vocal fatigue. Dr. Guntupalli’s work on VFI, and metabolic mechanisms of vocal fatigue has been recognized by the Editor Awards for the best paper in Speech Pathology from Journal of Voice. Her work on identifying the metabolic mechanism underlying vocal fatigue has led to a novel utilization of body-system level conditioning in the treatment of vocal fatigue and was funded by the National Institutes of Health- NIH-NIDCD. Dr. Guntupalli is currently focused on systematically studying vocal fatigue using the developed conceptual framework on.
