Emily Eaton is the Director of Mission Acceleration which operates out of the Center for Excellence in Literacy Instruction at the University of Mississippi.
Biography
Emily Eaton is currently the Director of Mission Acceleration at the University of Mississippi. During her 23 years in education, she has experience as a first-grade teacher, service as a literacy coach and Regional Literacy Coordinator for the Mississippi Department of Education, as well as a PreK – 6th grade elementary principal. She has also served as the Director of Federal Programs, Curriculum, and Assessment for the North Tippah School District and as an adjunct faculty member at Blue Mountain Christian University instructing courses in Early Literacy I and II. Her credentials include National Board Certification in Literacy as well as being a nationally certified trainer of Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). She received an Educational Specialist degree in Elementary Education from Delta State University, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi, and Educational Administration certification through MAP-QSL. Currently, she is in the final stages of completing a Doctoral Degree in Education at Delta State University, with her dissertation defense scheduled to take place later this year. During her career, she has secured several grants for the advancement of literacy totaling over $750,000.00. She actively serves on numerous national, state, and local committees and boards focused on educational endeavors including a seat as a board member for the Mississippi Literacy Association, Reading Reimagined (aerdf), and as a Regional Director for the Reading League Mississippi. Emily was recognized as the Teacher of the Year in 2010 and as STAR Teacher in 2023 by a former first grade student. During her time as a principal, she worked to ensure that Falkner Elementary became one of the first seven Science of Reading Schools in Mississippi.
