Biography

Dr. Joel Amidon is Professor of Teacher Education in the University of Mississippi’s School of Education. He has held several leadership positions in mathematics education/mathematics teacher education, including Vice President of Communications and Outreach for the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and President of the Mississippi Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators.

He is the host or co-host of several podcasts dedicated to improving teaching—Amidon PlanetRoad to Better Teaching with Dr. Ann Monroe, and the Teaching Math Teaching podcast with Dusty Jones, Jen Wolfe, and Eva Thanheiser.

Dr. Amidon prepares teachers of mathematics, mentors doctoral students, and conducts research exploring what it means to teach mathematics and mathematics methods as an expression of agape—an unconditional act of love. His work focuses on developing teaching practices that expand opportunities for all learners, address barriers to success, and foster classrooms where every student can thrive.
