Johnny Ducking

Dr. Ducking teaches principles of microeconomics and sports economics. His research investigates labor related issues in sports.

Research Interests

Dr. Ducking's main area of research uses labor markets in sports to assess whether race, gender, and other personal characteristics impact labor market outcomes. He also examines how minimum salaries impact players. He has utilized data from the National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), and Women’s NCAA Division I College Basketball in his studies.

Biography

Dr. Johnny Ducking joined the Department of Economics at the University of Mississippi as an Associate Professor in 2024. Prior to joining the University of Mississippi, he was a member of the Department of Economics at North Carolina A&T State University for 13 years. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Kentucky in 2011. His passion for labor issues in sports stems from his prior experience as a member of the University of Mississippi football team. Dr. Ducking has served as a co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Economics, Race, and Policy on the economics of race, gender, and sports. He currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Sport Finance.
