Jannell Clampitt

Instructional Assistant Professor of School of Engineering

Jannell Clampitt

Jannell E. Clampitt obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. of civil and environmental engineering at Auburn University, and her B.S. in Biological Systems Engineering with a Bioenvironmental Focus from Iowa State University.

Research Interests

Biography

Her master’s degree focused on Stormwater management on construction sites, which involved evaluating hydraulic impoundment capabilities of wattles and developing standards for using flocculants for the Alabama DOT.  Her doctoral research focused on advancing erosion and sediment control practices across both inland and coastal environments. Her work included a nationwide synthesis of stormwater BMPs to identify research gaps and standardize practice terminology, as well as an experimental study that evaluated thin layer placement on living shorelines dominated by black needlerush vegetation to improve coastal restoration practices. Feel free to explore my research website for more details!

At the University of Mississippi, Dr. Clampitt teaches across all engineering disciplines, working with students from their first semester to their final year. Her courses span introductory engineering, applied mathematics, and foundational core concepts, along with non-technical professionalism and communication skills. Her teaching emphasizes connecting technical knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while fostering adaptability and professionalism to prepare students for success after graduation. Curriculum Vitae

Publications

Suspended sediment in stormwater runoff can have negative environmental impacts. Construction activities are a major contributor to sediment-laden runoff caused by the constant disturbance and destabilization of soil. Wattles are one of the most commonly used materials across a wide range of erosion and sediment control applications.
