Justin Joseph Sherman

Dr. Sherman teaches pharmacy practice in all years of the curriculum and is the TL for PHCY 603; his practice site is at the UMMC Family Medicine in Jackson and has been at the University of Mississippi since 2009.

Research Interests

Dr. Sherman is interested in certain aspects of ambulatory care, including research in diabetes, smoking cessation, men's health issues, and community/retail pharmacy. He also has publications centered around the scholarship of teaching.

Biography

Dr. Justin Sherman graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1999 and completed a residency in Primary Care at Methodist Healthcare Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. His specialty is ambulatory care. For nine years he taught at the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Pharmacy. Justin is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, where he has worked and taught for thirteen years, and he has an adjunct appointment in the Department of Family Medicine. Justin has developed diabetes care services (medication therapy management services) at the UMMC Lakeland Family Medical Clinic in Jackson, Mississippi. In the past, he has also developed smoking cessation and anticoagulation services. He teaches topics in ambulatory care, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, men’s health issues, COPD, and smoking cessation. In addition to serving as a preceptor for 4th year pharmacy students, he precepts for the University of Mississippi Community Practice Residency. In the past, he has served as Director/Coordinator of two different residency programs. He has over 60 manuscripts and book chapters and has published a book titled 'Community and Clinical Pharmacy Services: A Step-by-Step Approach'.
