James Durham

Biography

James Durham is the Assistant Director of Instruction at the University of Mississippi’s Center for STEM Learning, where he brings energy, creativity, and a deep commitment to student success into every aspect of his work. He also serves as a Course Coordinator, Content Creator, and Assessment Specialist for Integrated Science courses, helping design learning experiences that are engaging, meaningful, and grounded in real-world application. As an instructor for LIBA 150 and 151, James is passionate about creating classroom environments where students feel challenged, supported, and inspired to think differently about science.

James earned both his M.Ed. in Educational Psychology and his B.S. in Education from Texas Tech University. Before joining Ole Miss, he spent over a decade at Texas Tech’s College of Education, where he developed a reputation for innovative teaching and a strong focus on active learning. His work has been recognized with several honors, including the Spencer Wells Creativity in Teaching Award, the Assessment Innovation Grant Award, and the Mortar Board Apple Polishing Award.

In addition to his university roles, James has consulted with schools, districts, and professional organizations across the nation since 1998, bringing practical insight and a collaborative mindset to every partnership. He is especially enthusiastic about working with colleagues across disciplines to create impactful learning experiences and improve student outcomes. Known for his approachable style and genuine enthusiasm, James values building connections with students, faculty, and staff alike. He is excited to be part of the Ole Miss community and looks forward to collaborating with others to support innovative teaching and learning across the university.
