Jamiko Deleveaux

Dr. Jamiko Deleveaux is a sociologist with a strong academic background in Applied Demography. His research focuses on how migration affects identity, with a particular emphasis on health and climate change impacts in the Caribbean, while his teaching covers topics like policy, population health, and data analytics through hands-on learning.

Research Interests

In his research, Deleveaux explores how the migration process influence identity, with most of his work focused on the impact of migration, health, and climate change from the Caribbean. His work utilized a mixed-method approach that focuses on demographic analysis and incorporating the voice of participants in his research. The courses I teach focus on policy, population health, data analytics, and demography and how these factors shape the community we live in. Students can expect discussion and hands-on learning opportunities to apply concepts learnt in class to exciting research projects.

Biography

Jamiko Deleveaux was born in The Commonwealth of the Bahamas and grew up in the state of Georgia. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Sociology at the University of Mississippi. He enrolled in graduate school and received a Ph.D. in Applied Demography from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2018. He returned to Mississippi and worked with the Center for Population Studies on a range of demographic projects for partners ranging from non-profit organizations, the Census Bureau, and local and state government offices.
