Biography

Dr. Kevin Heupel is a visiting professor of management who combines academic expertise with practical entrepreneurial experience. A published author, he has been featured in USA Today, CNBC, and The Brian Tracy Show for his insights on business and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Heupel earned his PhD in Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University, along with an MBA from OSU. He also holds a BS in Accounting and Finance and JD from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Before pursuing his doctorate, he practiced law as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado and later established his own practice focusing on consumer bankruptcy and family immigration.

His research examines how founders build legitimacy and create interest in their new ventures, using frameworks from sensemaking, signaling theory, and multilevel legitimacy theory. His recent work explores how entrepreneurs can effectively showcase confidence and passion to generate support for new technologies.

Dr. Heupel has two adult sons and enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, golfing, and pickleball. Having relocated from Colorado to Oxford, Mississippi, he looks forward to experiencing SEC football and becoming part of the Ole Miss community.
