Kris Urquhart

Major Kris Urquhart is the Executive Officer for the Army ROTC program and an Instructor in the Department of Military Science and Leadership at the University of Mississippi.

Biography

Major (MAJ) Kris R. Urquhart was born and raised in the Tampa, FL area. He entered the U.S. Army in 2003 and graduated from Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, the Basic Airborne Course, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program prior to being assigned to 1st Battalion (BN), 75th Ranger Regiment (RGR RGT) at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. While assigned to 1st Ranger Battalion, he served in every position from Rifleman to Team Leader.

In 2009, he was selected to attend the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning (now Fort Moore), GA. Since then, he has served in every position from Platoon Leader to Brigade Executive Officer.

As an Officer, his professional military education includes the Basic Officer Leader Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger Assessment and Selection (RASP) II twice, the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course (MCCC), and the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC).

Prior to the MCCC, his assignments included 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry (IN) BN, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division, and 3rd Battalion, 75th RGR RGT. His post MCCC assignments include 4-9 IN BN, 1st Stryker BCT, 4th Infantry Division and 1st Battalion, 75th RGR RGT. MAJ Urquhart’s post ACSC assignments include Headquarters, V Corps at Fort Knox, KY, where he served as the Plans Officer for the Training, Readiness, and Exercises Directorate. In 2021, he served as the Battalion Executive Officer for 2-2 IN, 3rd BCT, 10th Mountain (MTN) Division. Prior to being selected as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Ole Miss, he served as the Brigade Executive Officer of 3/10 MTN BDE,

Major Urquhart has deployed 12 times in support of combat operations to include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, and Operation Inherent Resolve. He has deployed one time in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

Military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 3 Oak Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (w/ 1 Oak Leaf), Joint Service Commendation Medal (w/ 2 Oak Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (w/ 3 Oak Clusters), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal (w/ 1 Silver Oak Leaf).

Military decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

MAJ Urquhart holds a Bachelor's of Science in Business Management from Carson-Newman University, a Master's in Business Administration from Cumberland University, and a Master's of Military Science from the Air University.

He is married to the former Cynthia Willard of Clarksville, TN, and they have two boys- Riley and Ethan.
