Biography
Lei Cao (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 1990, the M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, in 1993, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri–Columbia, USA, in 2002. From 1993 to 1998, he was a Lecturer in the Department of Electronic Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China. Since 2002, he has been with the University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, USA, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
His research interests include distributed detection, source and channel coding, wireless communications, and applied probability modeling. He serves as an Associate Editor for Networked Sensor Systems for the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems. His research has been supported by various funding agencies, including NSF, NASA, DoT, Gulf Research Programs, and SMDC, as well as industry partners such as Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, C Spire, Raytheon, Decibel Research, and Harris.
