Dr. Gary is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy & Religion at the University of Mississippi.
Research Interests
Dr. Mercer Gary specializes in biomedical ethics and feminist philosophy, particularly the ethics and politics of care. She is currently finishing a monograph (under contract with OUP) on technologically induced moral changes to the value of care.
Biography
Dr. Gary completed her undergraduate degree at Smith College and her Master’s in Philosophy at Georgia State University, where she also received a graduate certificate in Women and Gender Studies. She then completed her doctoral work at Penn State University and a postdoctoral fellowship at The Hastings Center. Prior to arriving at UM in 2026, Dr. Gary was an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Drexel University. She serves as the Treasurer for the International Network of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics and on the Steering Committee for the Care Forum.
