Biography

Millie Hutton is an Assistant Professor of Accountancy in the University of Mississippi’s Patterson School of Accountancy.

Research Interests

  • Regulation: analyzing the impact of accounting and auditing regulation on market outcomes and policy development
  • Internal controls: exploring the design, implementation, and consequences of internal control systems within firms
  • Capital markets: examining how accounting information influences the behavior and decisions of capital market participants

Biography

Millie Hutton serves as an Assistant Professor of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi where she teaches undergraduate systems. Millie earned her Ph.D., Master of Accountancy, and Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama. Before earning her doctorate, she worked in assurance for three years in Ernst & Young's New Orleans office. She is an active CPA in Louisiana and Alabama.

Millie’s research primarily examines how accounting information impacts capital market participants, particularly in areas of importance to regulators and standard setters. In 2025, she received the FARS Midyear Meeting’s Outstanding Discussion Award and the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business’s Outstanding Dissertation Award. During her doctoral studies, she received the Culverhouse College of Business’s Outstanding Teaching by a Doctoral Student Award and the University of Alabama’s Outstanding Teaching by a Doctoral Student Award.
