Biography

Dr. Nathan Murray is an accomplished scientist and leader with nearly two decades of experience at the National Center for Physical Acoustics. Currently serving as the Director, Dr. Murray has a rich history of contributions in aeroacoustics research, having started as a research scientist. His expertise spans fluid dynamics, missile technology, acoustic measurement, and hypersonic flight dynamics.

Dr. Murray was part of the inaugural cohort of the School of Engineering's aeroacoustics doctoral program, working under esteemed researchers like Larry Ukeiley and John M. Seiner.

In addition to his scientific endeavors, Nathan has been instrumental in education as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. His leadership extends to the Mississippi NASA Space Grant Consortium, where he has served as Director since 2015, focusing on advancing STEM education and research.

Dr. Murray is dedicated to maintaining the NCPA’s world-class research expertise, building on the legacy established by his grandfather, F. Douglas Shields, a founding scientist of the center.
