Biography

Dr. Precious Patrick Edet is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the William Magee Institute and an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Her research centers on HIV/AIDS and substance use prevention, with a focus on how substance use influences HIV acquisition, progression, and treatment outcomes. Previously, Dr. Edet worked at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she contributed to a National Institute of Mental Health-funded study aimed at improving Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) awareness, uptake, and adherence among at-risk populations of HIV in the Southern United States. Dr. Edet has been recognized with several awards, including the Scholar Recognition Award from the Mississippi Academy of Sciences & Mississippi INBRE in 2023 and the Top Scholar Award from Mississippi INBRE in 2019. As a committed member of the American Public Health Association, she serves in multiple roles within the HIV/AIDS section, including Program Co- Chair, Section Councilor, and Co-Chair of the HIV Prevention and Treatment among Priority Populations committee. She is also a member of the American College of Epidemiology. In addition to her research, she is dedicated to public health education through her teaching of graduate- level courses at Ole Miss.
