Wayne Prather

Senior Scientist II at the National Center for Physical Acoustics and Research Associate Professor of Physics

Wayne E Prather

Biography

With degrees in both physics and engineering, Dr. Prather has a strong background in experimental and system design across many areas of acoustics and engineering. After completing his graduate studies at the NCPA, Dr. Prather worked in the high-end audio consumer product industry, focusing on product design and manufacturing. He then transitioned to acoustics research and development in the defense community.

Dr. Prather currently leads the Applied Acoustics group at the NCPA and has actively participated in the atmospheric acoustics, aeroacoustics, and physical ultrasonics groups. His main areas of expertise are sensor design, system design, and experimental testing in both laboratory and outdoor environments. Dr. Prather has extensive experience in applying acoustic sensors on UAVs and other airborne platforms, as well as in loudspeaker design, mechanical design, and manufacturing.
