The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nutrition Sciences program is housed within the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management (NHM). The program is designed to train and mentor students to become proficient teachers, practitioners, and researchers.

Choosing the right graduate program can be difficult enough, so getting the application right shouldn't add to your stress. We've gathered all the information you need to apply to the Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences to make things as easy as possible.
The program consists of a minimum of 66 post-baccalaureate credit hours.
The degree requirements include:
Graded credit hours other than the thesis from the student’s master’s degree coursework within the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management at UM may be applied to the doctoral degree.
If the student has been enrolled in another graduate degree program outside the Department within the University, up to 6 hours of relevant graduate coursework credit completed outside the Department and within the University may be applied toward Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences upon the advisory committee’s approval.
Students may request the transfer from another institution up to 21 hours of the graded coursework credit hours required for a degree program. The student must have made a "B" or better on the course(s) to be transferred.
To be considered for the Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences, applying student's should be able to meet the following criteria for admission:
The Graduate Committee of the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management will review complete applications as they are received. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Competitive applicants relative to the overall pool of applicants will be recommended for admission.
In addition to the above criteria, other factors such as strength of letters of recommendation, work experience, and availability of resources within the department.
Applications for admission to the graduate programs must be submitted to the University of Mississippi Graduate School through the online application process.
In order to be assured consideration, applicant's must submit the following materials to the Graduate School prior to the aforementioned deadlines:
Students applying to the program may also decide to include a resume or CV, but this step is optional.

Students applying for the Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences must submit all of the required documentation to the Graduate School before March 1 (for full funding eligibility).
After acceptance, applications for graduate assistantship may be submitted online.
Students admitted to the Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences program may apply for the Master of Science in Food and Nutrition Services degree by completing the master’s degree requirement and submitting Form GS-8 Application for Graduate Degree.
Both the B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition program and the Coordinated Program (CP) in Dietetics program at the University of Mississippi are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
The Hospitality Management Program at the University of Mississippi is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA), PO Box 400, Oxford, MD 21654 (Phone 1-410-226-5527).
