About the Minor in Math Education

A minor in math education exposes students to issues in education related to mathematics pedagogy as well as general education pedagogy. It does not meet teacher certification requirements, though it can help with admission to certain alternative master's degree programs.

    EDSP 3080: Introduction to Special Education

    3 credits

    Introduction and overview of the various exceptionalities receiving special education services. An inclusive approach is presented with strategies for accommodating students with disabilities in regular education settings. An emphasis is placed on the role of technology and its uses with students with learning and behavioral problems.

    MATH 2451: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I

    3 credits

    Students are introduced to sets, the real number system and its subsystems.

    MATH 3900: Techniques in Teaching Sec. Level Math

    3 credits

    Teaching techniques for algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus are presented and discussed. May not be used for mathematics major or minor credit.
