Why should someone visit Ole Miss?
Our small school feel combined with our SEC perks and Special Programs like the Honors College, CME, Croft, and the Trent Lott Leadership Institute provide all students with a familiar and involved campus where each one is treated individually. In this way, we can still enjoy large university events like SEC football and National Baseball Championships while the resources our campus provides allow each student to participate in something special inside and outside of the classroom.
When and why did you choose your major(s)/minors?
I chose my major in Biology because I am hoping to become a doctor in the future. Our Health Professions Advising office also influenced this decision because they aid me in my Pre-Med journey and have had every answer to every question while facilitating my progress on my path to Medical School. Being able to sit down with their office 1-on-1 to go over my MCAT study schedule and Mock practice interviews have made all the difference.
What is your favorite Ole Miss sporting event to attend?
My favorite Ole Miss sporting event without a doubt was Omaha for the National Championship baseball game. Our university traveled so well that it seemed like the entire Oxford campus relocated to Nebraska for the week. The atmosphere was similar to a home game in Swayze field. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience especially since we came home with the trophy.
If you could be an animal for a day, what would you be and why?
If I could be an animal for a day, I would be a snake so that I could explore the depths of the jungle and possibly even slither on water which seems pretty cool.
Where did you study abroad, and what was that experience like?
I have not had the opportunity to study abroad, but I attended a medical mission trip through Ole Miss Global Brigades in Panamá, Latin America where we provided aid, medication, and services to rural communities with local doctors. To have an opportunity to combine my Spanish minor and my Pre-Med journey in one while being far from home was an amazing growth experience that taught me so much about different cultures and the impact of medicine.
Have you volunteered in the community around Oxford?
I have had the opportunity to volunteer at multiple spots around the Oxford, Lafayette community. I volunteered with groups of friends at our university food pantry, Grove Grocery, where we stocked foods and ran inventory. I also volunteered at a local urgent care in oxford where I gained priceless knowledge for my medical journey and even started working there part-time. I have also been able to deliver lunches and dinners through First Presbyterian Church to a community here in Oxford which allowed us to build relationships between Oxford residents and Ole Miss students.
