Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?
I chose Ole Miss for its incredible, tight-knit community. I can’t walk across campus without seeing a familiar face, and that sense of belonging extends right into Oxford. Whether it’s the Homecoming parade through the Square or participating in the Big Event, the connection here is unmatched. I also love the accessibility of our campus; being able to get anywhere in 15 minutes makes this large university feel like a close home, and I want to help new students find that same sense of place.

Why is your department a special place?
What makes Forensic Chemistry special is the tight-knit cohort. With only about 60 students in the major, you see the same faces in every class, which allows you to build deep friendships and a reliable study group for those late nights in the library. In such a rigorous program, having that support system is key to excelling. Beyond the community, the most vital parts of the major are the senior research opportunities and the required 10-week crime lab internship, which provide the hands-on experience we need to succeed.

What professor or class has had the most impact on you?
The most impactful class I’ve taken is Organic Chemistry. I initially went in with low expectations, hearing it could be the hardest course of my college career—but I was completely wrong. My professor has been incredible, truly prioritizing that every student understands the material. His humor and interactive teaching style make every lecture engaging. After finishing Organic Chemistry II with him, my confidence in tackling difficult subjects is higher than ever.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you’d tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
My biggest piece of advice is to get involved! It doesn't have to be anything over the top, but that is truly how you become friends with people on campus that you might not have otherwise met. My second big piece of advice to find a friend in every class you have! It truly helps keep you accountable for studying and talking with others about the material will help you learn it!
