Why did you choose PPL as your major and what was the appeal of the Lott program?

I originally came to the Ole Miss campus as an Undeclared Major, however, after a conversation with Lott Associate Director, Dr. Melissa Jones, my junior year of high school I was convinced Public Policy was the program for me. I researched many schools Public Policy programs, but none offered the quality of education or networking opportunities the Lott Institute provides. Lott allows students to choose where and how they want to work post-grad, providing all the tools necessary to compete with the best and achieve their ambitions.

What are your career aspirations?

I am currently undecided on my post-graduation goals, however, I am currently leaning towards working abroad for the United States State Department, with a focus on environmental or educational work. I am greatly interested in a career path involving the East African Region, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, or possibly Rwanda. Lott and the University of Mississippi as a whole have helped me become educated on international issues, and provided study abroad opportunities in my areas of interest.

Is there a professor that has been particularly helpful to you?

I am currently authoring a piece of education legislation that local school districts have taken an interest in. Throughout this whole process, professors Dr. Jody Holland and Dr. David Rutherford, have provided tremendous support and input on the idea, helping me to build into a potential reality. Without their aid, I would have never gotten nearly as far as I have now.

What is a particularly meaningful way you have engaged in a community either on or off campus?

Through my current work as an Orientation Leader I am hoping future generations of Rebel students become more acquainted with and comfortable in their new home. I am further working on several initiatives to increase the University of Mississippi's involvement in local education systems, through both the Rhetoric Department and Associated Student Body. I hope to build better more informed leaders for Oxford, North Mississippi, and the State's future.
