Challenge Course
The Challenge Course is an Association for Challenge Course Technology-accredited high and low ropes course located on the Oxford campus of the University of Mississippi on Insight Park Avenue just up the hill from the Blackburn-McMurray Outdoor Sports Complex.
The mission of the Challenge Course is to provide groups with opportunities to accomplish new and exciting adventures together! Whether your goal is to improve communication, build problem-solving skills, enhance teamwork, and/or have a fun experience, the Outdoors staff is ready to tailor an experience to meet the needs of your group.

Team Building
The Outdoors program offers in-person and virtual team building sessions for groups. These sessions are designed to help your organization improve transferable skills such as leadership, communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Group Reservations
Challenge Course and team building group reservations are available for Registered Student Organizations, University Departments, and approved External K-12 Groups. Please submit requests at least two weeks* prior to the requested session date.
*External groups will require institutional approval and should submit requests at least 4 weeks in advance

Reservations
- All group reservations should be made a minimum of 21 business days prior to the requested reservation date. Groups must consist of a minimum of 10 participants (Reach out for custom sizes).
- Participants are expected to stay for the whole extension of the program. We encourage participants to plan accordingly for the times the program has been scheduled.
- Reservations can be made by completing the online reservation form. The reservation is not confirmed until the Group Contact receives a confirmation email from Campus Recreation Outdoors.
- A Group Contact must be appointed at the time the reservation is made. If the initial Group Contact cannot be present, a new Group Contact must be appointed Campus Recreation Outdoors must be notified of the change.
- All groups must reserve a backup date in the event that the desired reservation date is not available, inclement weather occurs, or other extenuating circumstances arise.
- Full payment is due within 3 days of the reservation date. Payment instructions will be provided within the confirmation email and depend on the type of group (UM Department, Registered Student Organization, or K-12 Educational Group) reserving.
- All groups should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their reservation at the appropriate location described in the confirmation email. A 15-minute grace period will be allotted past the program start time to allow the group to arrive. If the group does not arrive within the 15-minute grace period - no call, no show - the group will still be charged the full amount for their program.
General Policies
- All participants must complete a Waiver and Health History Form prior to participating in any activities. These forms will be included in the confirmation email to the Group Contact and should be distributed to all participants. If a participant is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian is required to sign the forms.
- If a participant does not complete a Waiver and Health History Form, they cannot participate whatsoever.
- Pregnant women are advised not to participate in any activities that require their feet to leave the ground for risk management purposes.
- Individuals must be able to fit safely in a harness.
- Closed-toe shoes are required to participate in all programs.
- Clothing should be comfortable and loose to allow free movement. Athletic clothing, jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and shorts are all acceptable.
- Loose jewelry is not permitted and long hair should be tied back.
- Participants should bring their own water.
- Personal gear including, but not limited to, harnesses, helmets and other climbing gear will not be permitted for use by participants on the course for risk management and liability purposes.
- No pets will be permitted at the course, with the exception of service animals. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Campus Recreation Outdoors reserves the right to ask if the service animal is required because of a disability and inquire about the work or task the dog has been trained to perform. In the case a participant is accompanied by a service animal, the Outdoors Staff will accommodate the participant’s needs to the best of their ability. Any additional assistance or requirements should be discussed with Campus Recreation Outdoors Staff as soon as possible. The ADA and Mississippi law prohibit public accommodations from charging a special admission fee or requiring you to pay any other extra cost to have your service animal with you. However, you may have to pay for any damage the animal causes.
- All participants must comply with the campus weapons policy.
- The use of alcohol, illegal recreational drugs or any form of tobacco while participating in Campus Recreation Outdoors Programs is prohibited for risk management purposes.
- Campus Recreation Outdoors staff members reserve the right to refuse service to participants perceived to be under the influence of alcohol or other mind-altering substances based on the staff member’s discretion for risk management purposes.
Cancellation Fees
- Cancellations must be made seven business days before the event date in order to avoid cancellation fees. If a reservation is canceled less than seven business days before the event, a charge of 50% of the original reservation fee will be assessed. This does not include cancellations due to inclement weather (see below).
- Cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to the start of a program are not eligible for refunds.
- Extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis, by the Assistant Director over Outdoors.
Day-of Program Fees
- Failure to arrive on the day of the program does not impact the cost of the program. Groups will still be charged the full amount they reserved for.
Inclement Weather
- Reservations may be canceled due to rain, snow, excessively wet conditions, thunder, lightning, and/or tornado. If a group’s reservation is canceled due to weather, Campus Recreation Outdoors will work with the Group Contact to reschedule the group’s reservation.

Accommodations
The Challenge Course features adaptive equipment to allow participants in wheelchairs to experience elements on the course. Please contact Amanda Jessee to coordinate accommodations.
