Clean Air and Learning Mississippi (C.A.L.M.)
Better Air. Better Learning.
Our Mission
Every student deserves to learn in a healthy environment. Poor indoor air quality impacts student health, concentration, and academic success. Through education, advocacy, and practical solutions, C.A.L.M. aims to equip schools with resources to improve classroom air quality to ensure that Mississippi’s students and teachers can breathe easier every day.
Our Story
C.A.L.M. (Clean Air and Learning Mississippi) began as a student-led initiative with a simple but powerful goal: to make indoor air safer for Mississippi’s students and educators. The project was launched by an undergraduate public health student at the University of Mississippi who recognized the ability of Corsi-Rosenthal boxes to bring accessible, low-cost air filtration solutions for schools in Mississippi.
With support from the Stamps Impact Prize, the student partnered with public health faculty and local school leaders to bring this vision to life. The initiative started with hands-on workshops and classroom visits in Oxford, Mississippi where students built CR Boxes from simple materials.
What began as a local effort quickly grew into a collaborative public health project rooted in education, environmental health, and community empowerment. Today, C.A.L.M. partners with the Corsi Rosenthal Foundation and continues to expand its reach, building resources and to support schools throughout the state of Mississippi.

What is a Corsi-Rosenthal Box?
The Corsi-Rosenthal Box is a do-it-yourself air filtration device designed by Dr. Richard Corsi and Jim Rosenthal to reduce airborne particles and improve indoor air quality. Built using a simple combination of a box fan, MERV-13 filters, and basic materials, it offers an affordable and highly effective solution for classrooms, homes, and public spaces.
Corsi-Rosenthal Box Benefits
- Removes airborne particles, including viruses, allergens, and pollutants
- Improves classroom air quality in under an hour
- Quiet, affordable, and effective—perfect for schools
Best of all? Students can help build them. These boxes don’t just clean the air—they teach kids about public health, environmental responsibility, and the power of innovation.
