The Yellow Ribbon Program: Bridging the Financial Gap

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a key resource for veterans seeking to achieve their educational dreams. Designed to supplement the benefits provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill, this program helps cover tuition and fees at private institutions, out-of-state public schools, and other higher-cost education programs.

  • By partnering with Ole Miss, the Yellow Ribbon Program makes higher education more accessible and affordable for veterans and eligible dependents.
  • If you’ve exhausted your GI Bill benefits or are looking at a school where tuition exceeds the cap, this program can bridge the financial gap.

To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program at Ole Miss, you must meet specific criteria:

Who is eligible?

  • Prospective students must qualify for the maximum benefit rate under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Typically, this means serving at least 36 months of active duty or being honorably discharged for a service-connected disability after 30 days of active duty.
  • Individuals entitled to the 100% benefit rate (based on service requirements)
  • Spouses and children using Transfer of Entitlement (ToE) benefits when entitled to the 100% benefit rate.

Who is not eligible?

  • Individuals on active duty
  • ToE spouses when the transferor is on active duty
  • Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship recipients

The Yellow Ribbon Program at Ole Miss helps you pay for higher tuition and fee costs for:

  1. Out-of-State Tuition: For public institutions, it helps cover out-of-state fees not covered by the GI Bill.
  2. Graduate Programs: Supports advanced degree programs with higher costs.

Through the program the Yellow Ribbon Program, Ole Miss waives a portion of your tuition, and the VA matches the amount.

The University of Mississippi agrees to:

  • Provide contributions to eligible individuals who apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program, regardless of the rate at which the individual is pursuing training in any given academic year.
  • Provide contributions during the current academic year and all subsequent academic years in which The University of Mississippi is participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program, provided the student maintains satisfactory progress, conduct, attendance, has not graduated or becomes an in-state resident.
