UM Document Converter

Learn more about our tool to help make PDFs more accessible.

UM Document Converter, in partnership with Sensus Access, is available to any faculty, staff, or students at the University of Mississippi. While it does not provide a completely accessible document, it is useful to convert scanned or untagged PDFs to more accessible versions and allows users to choose the type of output that works best for their needs.

Document Converter is recommended for improving the accessibility of scanned or untagged PDFs.

Step 1: upload your file (this may take a few seconds).

Steps 2 and 3 will appear after your file is uploaded. Under Step 2 Target Format, choose Accessibility Conversion, then under Step 3 select PDF – Tagged PDF (Image over Text). The image over text option helps preserve the original appearance of your document, though the output may appear slightly blurrier in some cases.

Finally, enter your email address and press Submit. Your converted file will be sent to you shortly.

Note: Document Converter also offers additional output formats, such as MP3, Word, Braille, and eBooks. These options are used less frequently, but the conversion process is similar to the steps outlined above.
