Banner by Ellucian provides persona-driven interactions tailored to every area of the institution, offering a modern and intuitive user experience that prepares students for the future. Its curated processes and workflows, designed specifically for higher education, help drive successful outcomes. Additionally, Banner delivers actionable insights through integrated data, enabling institutions to accelerate decision-making and achieve results more efficiently.

An Ecosystem of Tools

Banner is more than a single system—it’s a modern ecosystem of connected tools that will go live in phases between now and Fall 2026. Together, these tools will transform how we manage student information and deliver services across campus.

 

Explore the key components that make up our new student information system:

Banner is UM’s new student information system (SIS). It brings together a suite of integrated tools to create a more modern, efficient experience for students, faculty, and staff. The full, initial version (MVP) will be live by Fall 2026.

This is the user-facing homepage of Banner, organized by customizable Cards based on your role and tasks. It makes it easier to find what you need—fast.

Houses core biographic and demographic information for all individuals and entities in the system.

Manages key student data, including academic records, registration, financial aid, and faculty assignments.

A tool within Banner for sending tailored communications, such as financial aid award letters, to students.

An academic advising platform that provides a dashboard view of student performance, helping advisors identify students who may need additional support.

A degree auditing tool that tracks progress toward degree completion. It supports prerequisite checks, GPA tracking, and transfer credit evaluation.

A document management system that integrates with Banner to provide fast, organized access to electronic records.

A reporting and analytics platform that brings together data from both Ellucian systems (like Banner) and non-Ellucian platforms (like Workday).

An online platform that connects students with scholarship opportunities, both internal (awarded by their institution) and external (offered by outside organizations). It streamlines the scholarship search process by matching students with relevant scholarships based on their profile information.

High-profile Integrations

In addition to the core Banner ecosystem, several third-party tools will be integrated to enhance functionality, improve user experience, and support specific campus needs. This includes a mix of new and existing systems.

An academic operations platform used for curriculum management, catalog publishing, class scheduling, registration, advising, and syllabi.

UM’s new identity management system for Single Sign-On (SSO) access to university-connected applications and websites.

Supports the law school admission process for prospective students and institutions.

A case management software that is used to track and manage student conduct, academic integrity, and other related cases.

Software that handles the Immunization Verification processes for students and employees.

A cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) system for University Health Services.

Enables mass communication and emergency notifications for enhanced campus safety and response.

UM’s new admissions and enrollment platform. Slate manages prospective student data and integrates with Banner once students are admitted.

Manages student housing processes, including applications, assignments, roommate matching, and billing.

Supports global engagement programs, including international student services and study abroad coordination.

Provides secure payment processing and commerce tools for campus departments and services.

Supports accreditation, assessment, and strategic planning by helping collect and use data to improve programs and student outcomes.
