Encompass: A New Way to Work
Encompass is the University of Mississippi’s initiative to modernize the campus enterprise systems that house student information, human resources/payroll, and financial data.
What is Encompass?
The University of Mississippi is a large institution with many moving parts. From student information to payroll, there is a lot of information to keep organized, secure, and accessible whenever we need to use it.
Encompass will help Ole Miss manage different business processes and functions with a single, unified view of our data, information, and its uses.
Encompass includes two solutions to best serve our students, faculty, and staff:
- Banner by Ellucian for our student information system (SIS).
- Workday for human resources, payroll, and finance.

Exciting Times for Student and Financial Information
It is an exciting time as we embrace the possibilities of this new chapter for the campus. This digital transformation is instrumental to operational efficiency and improving the student experience, especially as we look to address the complexities of today’s educational environment and meet the needs of tomorrow.

How Banner & Workday Help
Getting to Know Workday
Workday is a leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform that will integrate Human Resources, payroll, finance, and adaptive planning (budget) in a single tool.
When Will We Start Using Banner and Workday?
Encompass is a multi-year effort that began in 2024 and will continue through 2027. During that time, we’ll gradually reduce our use of SAP and transition to Banner via the new academic portal, Experience, and Workday.
For a high-level look at key milestones, explore our snapshot timeline. Please note that dates are subject to change as the project progresses. This timeline is intended as a planning tool to give you a general sense of what to expect.
Learn more below.
The Banner system began to be used in March of 2026 as the new academic portal, Experience, launched. It will be the student information system of record in Fall 2026.
- The Banner system will have multiple go-live dates as we move through various processes for the 2026-27 academic year.
- Current students used Banner to register for Fall 2026 classes and access Banner through Experience.
Implementation of Workday for finance began in March 2026, with a go-live on July 1, 2027. Implementation of Workday for adaptive planning (budget) will begin in July 2027 with an expected go-live date of January 2028.
Preparing employees to use the new solutions is a priority for the university, and Encompass includes a robust training and readiness plan for all aspects of the new systems.
- This includes just-in-time training coordinated with the various go-live dates of Workday and Banner.
- Training may include a variety of materials and delivery methods including job aids, how-to videos, computer-based training, and instructor-led learning opportunities.
Users will be trained based on the business process(es) within the Banner or Workday solution are part of their job responsibilities, security access, etc.
Encompass will include many third-party software integrations.
Implementation of the integrations will occur over the life cycle of Encompass through January 2028.Integrations have been prioritized to maximize each go-live and to optimize the Banner and Workday solutions.
Students are currently using Banner.
The first touchpoint for students in the new student information system (SIS) was for newly admitted students in Fall 2025 for admissions and financial aid processes.
