The Duff Center offers academic support for University of Mississippi students in a variety of courses and subjects. Available resources include help desks, mentoring programs, and other forms of course and academic support.

Biology Mentoring Program

Biology Mentors provide support beyond course material. They can help students navigate campus, understand academic advising, explore research opportunities, and find resources that support the first-year college experience. Biology Mentors are available to any student enrolled in BISC 1600 or BISC 1620. Location and meeting times Vary by Group.

Chemistry Help Desks

Chemistry Help Desks give students a place to ask questions and get additional help with chemistry course material. Graduate students and advanced undergraduate students are available to help with homework problems, concepts from lectures, lab calculations, exam preparation, and other chemistry questions. No appointment is necessary. Students can drop in during the hours listed below and should bring any course materials or questions they would like to review.

The General Chemistry Help Desk is available to students enrolled in General Chemistry I or II, including lecture and lab courses. The Help Desk is staffed by upper-level undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants with experience in chemistry.

Days: Monday-Thursday

Times: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Location: Duff Center, Suite A04

The Organic Chemistry Help Desk supports students who need help with Organic Chemistry lecture or lab material.

Days: Monday-Thursday

Times: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Location: Duff Center, Suite A05

The Organic Chemistry Help Desk is staffed by teaching assistants throughout the day. The Fall 2026 Help Desk runs from August 31 through December 4.

The General Chemistry Lab Help Desk provides support specifically for General Chemistry lab students. Students can stop by for help with lab concepts, calculations, and other lab-related questions.

Monday: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Wednesday: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Thursday: 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Friday: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Location: Duff Center, Suite A02

Appointments: Walk-ins welcome

The General Chemistry Lab Help Desk is staffed by Dr. John Wiginton. He may occasionally be away from the desk while making rounds through the labs. If he is away when you arrive, have a seat and wait a few minutes for him to return.

The Advanced Instrumental Analysis Help Desk is staffed by Greg Swieca to assist students in CHEM 5120.

Economics Tutoring

Students in Economics are welcome to drop-in for help with course concepts, assignments, exam preparation, and general questions.

Tutoring is available for students enrolled in select engineering courses.
