WHAT WE DO

The Center on Collegiate Gambling aims to advance understanding of college student gambling and gambling on collegiate sports through academic research and the promotion of evidence-based policies and programs to prevent harm, support student wellbeing, and protect the integrity of collegiate athletics.

The Center on Collegiate Gambling (CCG) is housed in the William Magee Institute for Student Wellbeing (WMI) in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Mississippi.

Our Goals

1. Education and Prevention

  • Develop and deliver gambling education programs for students, student athletes, coaches, and campus staff
  • Raise awareness around collegiate gambling through media campaigns
  • Host an annual Collegiate Gambling Awareness Week

2. Intervention and Treatment

  • Integrate gambling prevention into broader campus wellness initiatives
  • Establish campus processes for confidential screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment
  • Train campus health staff in gambling disorder recognition and treatment
  • Enhance the gambling disorder treatment network in Mississippi and beyond

3. Policy and Integrity

  • Conduct thorough policy reviews and provide policy guidance for universities, athletic departments, and state legislators
  • Serve as a central hub for best practices in compliance and harm reduction

4. Research and Evaluation

  • Conduct campus-wide and multi-campus surveys on gambling prevalence, risk factors, and consequences
  • Evaluate implemented programs, policies, and services for effectiveness in reducing gambling-related harm
  • Publish peer-reviewed studies and present at national conferences to inform policy and practice
