Student Conduct Policies
The University of Mississippi is dedicated to supporting and sustaining a safe and scholarly community of learning dedicated to nurturing excellence inside and outside of the classroom in the spirit of The University Creed.
University of Mississippi Policies
M Book
The M Book contains many of the University’s values and standards. Annually, the Office of the Dean of Students and the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct publish the M Book to assist students with understanding their rights and responsibilities. While the M Book is a compilation of many different policies, it is an abbreviated guide of University policies and not a complete digest of all policies.
Policy Directory
The University of Mississippi Policy Directory is a central location for accessing University-wide policies. Policies can be viewed by responsible office as well as discovered via a free form search by keyword. After selecting a policy, the effective date, status, and the history of the policy’s review and approval are available to review.
From the time of application for admission through the actual awarding of a degree, students accept the rights and responsibilities of membership in the University’s community. Students are expected to uphold community values by exercising a high standard of conduct at all times. Each student has a duty to become familiar with University values and standards reflected in University policies, and each student has a duty to honor University values and standards reflected in University policies.
Key Policies and Restricted Conduct
Alcohol and Drug Sanctioning
The Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct strives to be educational and restorative while sanctioning students and student organizations who have violated university policies.
Any student or student organization found in violation of a University policy regarding the use of alcohol or other drugs shall be subject to a range of possible outcomes including alcohol and other drug educational opportunities through the William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education or other approved providers.
RebelADE
RebelADE , hosted by the William Magee Center for AOD and Wellness Education, is a student-centered, educational program designed to assist students in developing a healthy lifestyle by recognizing and reducing the potential harm associated with alcohol and other drug use. For RebelADE questions or concerns, please contact the William Magee Center office via email (rebelade@olemiss.edu).
In sanctioning alcohol and/or drug related incidents, the University of Mississippi will consider the totality of the circumstances giving rise to the infraction. Considerations may include the severity of the infraction and the scope of damage and/or harm caused. For more information regarding sanctioning for Alcohol and Drug related infractions, please see the full policy here.
“I don’t want me or my friend to get in any trouble, but they need help. What should I do?”
If you are on campus and have an emergency, do the right thing and call our University Police Department at 662-915-7234 or dial 911 from anywhere.
Under the Safety and Well-Being Amnesty policy, students or student organizations who seek proactive assistance on behalf of themselves or others experiencing an alcohol or drug related emergency will not be subject to disciplinary action under University Conduct Rules and Regulations.
Students who qualify for amnesty will still be required to meet with a University official. Although students who qualify for amnesty are exempt from the charges and sanctions from the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, they may still be responsible for completing educational measures in relation to their alcohol or drug consumption, and/or hazing or other unsafe behavior. Educational measures may include, but are not limited to: parental notification if under the age of 21 for alcohol or drug violations, alcohol, drug, or hazing prevention education, or other supportive opportunities.
The University of Mississippi expects community members to be in compliance with published University policies, including policies enacted by the Department of Student Housing.
For incidents occurring in Student Housing owned or managed facilities, involved parties may be assigned a full-time conduct officer situated within the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct or may be assigned a conduct officer in a Student Housing role with student conduct responsibilities, including full-time professional staff members and graduate students.
