The University Counseling Center staff strictly follows the ethical standards set by the AMA, APA, NASW, and ACA, ensuring confidentiality at all times.

Counseling records are not included in academic, educational, or personnel files unless authorized by the client. No written or verbal information will be shared with others without the client's written consent.

Please note: Confidentiality may be legally limited if there is an imminent risk of self-harm or harm to others.

All currently enrolled students are eligible for counseling services, including non-degree-seeking students taking at least three credit hours. Students at satellite campuses can access counseling through telehealth services provided by the University Counseling Center. For summer services, students are eligible if they were enrolled in the previous Spring semester and are registered for the upcoming Fall semester. Full-time university employees who are also students are eligible for EAP-MH services.

Additionally, students must be 18 years or older to receive counseling services without parental or guardian consent. If under 18, a release form signed by a parent or legal guardian is required before services can be provided.

We may refer clients to external services for various reasons, such as when their needs fall outside our scope of practice, they are not eligible for UCC services, we cannot accommodate them in a timely manner, or if they prefer to receive care outside of the UCC.

While a 24-hour notice is appreciated, clients must notify the Counseling Center at least two hours prior to their appointment to avoid being charged. Failure to do so may result in a $50 no-show fee being applied to your Bursar account.

Due to the heavy demand for services, a no-show fee/late cancellation fee of $50 for individual appointments will be charged to the student’s Bursar account. The client must notify the Counseling Center at least 2 hours prior to their scheduled appointment to avoid the late cancellation fee. A client can notify the Counseling Center through email (counslg@olemiss.edu), by telephone (662-915-3784), or in person at the Counseling Center.

*A $50 fee will be charged to the student’s Bursar Account if any of the following occur:

  • You fail to attend your appointment
  • You fail to cancel 2 hours prior to your scheduled appointment
  • You are more than 15 minutes late to your scheduled appointment

All psychiatric new client appointments (initial appointments) incur a one-time fee of $10, which will be charged to the student's Bursar account. All follow-up appointments are provided free of charge.

All sessions, communications, and client records are fully protected.
