What We Offer

We offer a variety of mental health services.

All currently enrolled students, including those at satellite campuses, can use counseling services if they are taking at least one credit hour. This includes non-degree seeking students.

Students must be 18 or older to receive services without parental consent. If under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign a release form before services can be provided.

Summer students are eligible for services if they were enrolled in the previous Spring and will be enrolled in the upcoming Fall semester.

University employees can access services through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP-MH).

To find out if you're an eligible employee, contact Human Resources for more information.

We request that, when possible, you make an appointment.  This allow us to serve you better — on your time.  To schedule an appointment online. To Schedule an appointment via telephone, call 662-915-3784.

In the case of an emergency during office hours, walk-in services are provided at the University Counseling Center without an appointment Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

This is the initial appointment for clients seeking ongoing therapy. During this session, we will gather detailed information about the client's presenting concerns and conduct a comprehensive review of their personal history.

In individual counseling, you receive your counselor's full attention in a supportive, one-on-one environment focused on understanding, warmth, and insight. The goal is to empower clients to gain more effective control over their lives. Personal issues commonly addressed include college adjustment, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, substance abuse, eating disorders, grief and loss, and family problems.

Psychiatric Initial Appointment
The UCC’s psychiatric providers, including Psychiatrists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, offer assessment and management of psychotropic medications for students.

To schedule your first appointment with a psychiatric provider, call the UCC at  662-915-3785 or use the search bar to look up “Psych” or “1st” to view available dates and times. If no appointments are available online, please contact the UCC front desk directly.

A one-time $10 fee will be charged for your initial psychiatric appointment, billed to your Bursar account. Follow-ups are free of cost.

Psychiatric Follow-Up Appointment
This appointment is for students who have already completed a Psychiatric Initial Appointment.

Follow-up appointments typically last 30 minutes with your assigned psychiatric provider. You can search for available appointments by entering “Psych,” “Recheck,” or your provider’s name in the search bar.

If you’re unsure of your current provider’s name, refer to the staff tab for a complete list of psychiatric staff members.

For Psychiatric Emergencies, walk-ins are availble. Walk-in services are available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on a “first come, first served” basis, no appointment necessary.

A 24/7 crisis helpline is also available by calling 662-915-3784.

Licensed counselors are ready to assist with complete confidentiality, and services are provided at no cost to students.

Many students may feel isolated or alone in facing their challenges, experiences, thoughts, and emotions.

Group therapy provides a safe, supportive, and confidential environment where students can feel understood, supported, and encouraged by their peers. These sessions are free for currently enrolled students, held weekly for 60 to 90 minutes, and include up to 10 participants. Each group is facilitated by clinical staff members. The UCC offers a variety of group therapy options based on the unique needs and interests of University students.

The UCC offers couples counseling to members of the University of Mississippi community, including students, faculty, and staff, as long as both individuals are actively enrolled or employed by the university. These services help couples improve communication, navigate challenges, and strengthen their relationships.

The Employee Assistance-Mental Health Program (EAP-MH) is a confidential service available to all university administration, faculty, and staff.

EAP-MH offers short-term consultation for employees facing work or life challenges who may benefit from individual counseling. Common issues include work-related stress, interpersonal difficulties, or productivity barriers.

The program includes four sessions structured as follows:

  • The first session is free.
  • The remaining three sessions are $30 each.
  • A $50 fee applies for cancellations or no-shows.

Sessions are paid via payroll deduction and can be renewed annually on a calendar-year basis (January-December).
