The English Proficiency Requirement and the IEP Advanced Plus Level
International students who wish to enroll in a degree-seeking undergraduate program at the University of Mississippi must meet the English Proficiency Requirement. If you have a 3.2 high school GPA but do not have a high enough IELTS or TOEFL score for full admission, the IEP Advanced Plus Level may be right for you!
Through the IEP Advanced Plus Level, students may receive conditional undergraduate admission to The University of Mississippi and fulfill the English Proficiency Requirement by completing the Advanced Plus Level (Level 4) with a B average (3.00 semester GPA). The APL is designed to be completed in one semester (Fall, Spring, or Full Summer).
To enter the Advanced Plus Level, you must meet one of the following English achievements:
- TOEFL iBT score of 69 – 78
- IELTS score of 5.5
- complete the IEP Advanced Level (Level 3)
- other equivalent standardized English test score
If you are a transfer student from an international college or university with at least a 2.50 GPA and meet one of the above English achievements, you may also qualify for APL conditional undergraduate admission as a transfer student. This information is relevant to the common F1 US Student Visa, but other visa categories may have different requirements. Please contact StudyEnglish@olemiss.edu for questions about eligibility.
Applying to an Academic Program
To document a student’s successful participation in the IEP Advanced Plus Level, the IEP will issue a letter verifying that a student’s transcript correctly reports the student’s grades and confirming that the student has met the English Language Proficiency requirement for undergraduate admission to The University of Mississippi. Successful completion of the APL replaces the need to present TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores to the university when applying to an academic program.
